Short answer: On a Samsung (Tizen) or LG (webOS) TV, install a playlist player such as IBO Player from the TV’s app store. The app shows a MAC address and device key; enter those on the app maker’s website with your IPTV Rich login, then restart the app. Hisense VIDAA has few players, so a Fire TV Stick or Google TV device is often easier.
Which IPTV apps are in the Samsung, LG and Hisense app stores?
The honest answer: it changes. Players get added, renamed and pulled from TV stores, and what you see depends on your TV’s model year. We can’t promise any single app is in your store today, but the pattern is steady.
| TV | Software | Where apps live | What you’ll usually find | Our pick |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung | Tizen | Home > Apps | Several playlist players, most activated by MAC address | IBO Player |
| LG | webOS | Home > Apps (once called LG Content Store) | A similar set of MAC-activated players | IBO Player |
| Hisense | VIDAA | The VIDAA app store | Few players, varying by model and region | A streaming stick if none fits |
| Hisense, Sony, TCL | Google TV | Google Play | TiviMate, Smarters and more | Android TV guide |
| Insignia, Toshiba | Fire TV built in | Amazon Appstore and Downloader | TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro | Fire TV guide |
Look for a player whose store page mentions M3U, playlist or Xtream Codes. Any of them can play IPTV Rich. For a side-by-side of the main options, read the best IPTV player apps for Samsung and LG TVs.
How does MAC activation work in apps like IBO Player?
Typing a long login with a TV remote is painful, so most TV players skip it. Instead, the app shows two codes on screen, and you add your playlist from your phone or computer on the app maker’s website.
- Open the app on the TV and note the codes. The first screen shows a MAC address (pairs of letters and numbers like
A1:B2:C3:D4:E5:F6) and a device key. Take a photo of the screen. - Go to the app maker’s official website. On your phone or computer, open the app’s site and find the page for adding or managing playlists.
- Enter the MAC address and device key. Type them exactly as shown; a zero and the letter O look alike on some TVs.
- Add your IPTV Rich playlist. Paste your M3U link, or choose the Xtream option and enter the server URL, username and password. Name it
IPTV Richand save. - Restart the app on the TV. Close it fully and open it again. The playlist appears; choose it and open Live TV.
Two things to know. First, these apps usually run free for a trial period, then the app maker charges an activation fee, normally per TV. That fee goes to them, not to us. Second, your playlist is stored on the app maker’s server, so only use the official website, and delete the playlist there if you stop using the app. Our IBO Player setup guide covers its settings in detail.
How do you set up IPTV on a Samsung TV?
- Update the TV. Go to Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. Older software is a common reason apps don’t appear.
- Find the player. Press Home, go to Apps, select the magnifying glass and type the player’s name, such as
IBO Player. - Install and open it. Select Install, then Open. Note the MAC address and device key.
- Add your playlist on the app’s website. Follow the MAC activation steps above.
- Reopen the app and test. Play a channel you know, such as CTV or Sportsnet, then add favourites.
How do you set up IPTV on an LG TV?
- Update the TV. In Settings, open Support (or General > About This TV on older models) and check for software updates.
- Open Apps. Press Home, open Apps, search for the player and select Install. LG’s webOS page shows where apps live on current models.
- Open the player and note the codes. Photograph the MAC address and device key.
- Add your playlist on the app’s website. Use the MAC activation steps above.
- Restart the app and test. Try a channel at your usual viewing hour, then set favourites.

How do you set up IPTV on a Hisense VIDAA TV?
First check which software your Hisense runs. If the home screen shows Google TV and Google Play, use the Google TV guide instead. If it shows VIDAA, try this:
- Open the VIDAA app store. Search for
IPTVand read each result’s description. - Pick a player that takes a playlist. It should mention M3U, playlist or Xtream Codes.
- Install and add your login. If the app shows a MAC address and key, use the MAC activation steps above. If it asks for a login, enter the server URL, username and password.
- Test before you rely on it. Play a sports channel for ten minutes during your trial.
If nothing suitable appears, don’t fight it. Add a streaming stick, as explained below.
Which TV settings make IPTV look and play better?
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Ethernet cable if the router is near | TV Wi-Fi antennas are often weak. Even a 100 Mbps TV port carries a 25 Mbps 4K stream. |
| Picture mode | Standard for sports, Movie or Filmmaker for films | Accurate colour without the showroom glare |
| Motion smoothing (Samsung Auto Motion Plus, LG TruMotion) | Low or Off for films; to taste for sports | Removes the “soap opera” look on movies |
| Player buffer (if the app offers one) | Medium or Large | More cushion against short dips. See buffer size settings. |
| Samsung Device Care (Settings > Support > Device Care) | Run it when apps feel slow | Clears cached memory and closes background apps |
| Power | Unplug the TV for 30 seconds if an app misbehaves | A full restart clears what standby keeps in memory |
Samsung explains Device Care on its Canadian support page. Its Manage Storage screen lists each app with its data and cache, so you can clear a player’s cache or delete apps you never open. On a TV with little free space, that alone can stop an app from closing mid-game.
Can you use the TV’s web browser instead?
Not really. TV browsers are built for web pages, not live video: most IPTV streams won’t play in them, there’s no TV guide, and the remote makes everything slow. Use a player app, or a stick.
What are the limits of smart TV IPTV apps?
- Fewer settings. Many TV players have no buffer or decoder options, so you can’t tune around a problem.
- Slower hardware. TV processors are built for picture quality, not for loading 57,000+ channels. Lists load slower and channel changes lag.
- Apps can vanish. A player can disappear from the store or stop working after a TV update.
- A fee per TV. Activation is usually tied to each TV, so three TVs can mean three fees.
- Updates end. After a few years, TVs stop getting software updates, and newer apps stop supporting them.
When should you add a Fire TV Stick or Google TV device instead?
Add a stick when the TV’s own app isn’t good enough. It plugs into a spare HDMI port, and the TV becomes a screen.
- Your VIDAA, Roku or older TV has no suitable player.
- Channels buffer in the TV app but play fine on your phone on the same Wi-Fi.
- You want TiviMate’s guide, catch-up or multi-view.
- You’d rather not pay an activation fee for every TV.
Choose a Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Fire TV Cube, not a Vega OS model; the Fire TV model check explains why. A Google TV Streamer is the other good choice. Both work with any TV that has an HDMI port.
What if IPTV won’t play on your smart TV?
The app says there’s no playlist
The playlist was saved to a different MAC address, or the app wasn’t restarted. Check the MAC and key on the website against the TV screen, save again and fully restart the app.
Login errors
An M3U link copied in two pieces, or with a missing end, fails. Copy it again from your email in one go. Error codes are explained in IPTV error codes 401, 403, 404, 500 and 509.
Buffering
Move to Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, then work through the IPTV buffering fixes.

Questions people ask
Is IBO Player free?
It runs free for a trial period, then the app maker charges an activation fee. We don’t sell or set the price of the app; the fee is paid on the app maker’s website.
Do I pay the activation fee for each TV?
Usually yes, because activation is tied to each TV’s MAC address. If you have several TVs, compare that cost with a streaming stick for each one.
Why can’t I find the app on my Samsung or LG?
Store listings vary by model year and region, and apps are sometimes pulled. Update the TV and search again. If it still isn’t there, try another playlist player or add a stick.
Can I watch 4K on a smart TV app?
Yes, on channels broadcast in 4K, if the app supports it and your line gives about 25 Mbps at the TV. Most channels are HD or Full HD.
Does IPTV Rich work on a Roku TV?
Not on its own: Roku’s store has no good IPTV player. Plug a Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Google TV Streamer into a spare HDMI port.
