Short answer: Yes. IPTV works in Halifax on Eastlink cable or Bell Aliant fibre. Halifax sits inside the Senators’ and Canadiens’ regional TV areas, so TSN 5, TSN 2 and RDS carry their regional games, and Sportsnet has the national ones. The catch is Atlantic Time: a 7 p.m. Eastern game starts at 8 p.m. here, and West Coast games start at 11 p.m.
What time do games start in Halifax?
One hour later than the Eastern time in national listings, and four hours later than a Pacific start. Here’s how the usual slots land on a Halifax clock:
| What’s on | Listed (Eastern) | In Halifax (Atlantic) |
|---|---|---|
| NHL game in Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal | 7:00 p.m. | 8:00 p.m. |
| NHL game in Calgary or Edmonton (7 p.m. Mountain) | 9:00 p.m. | 10:00 p.m. |
| NHL game in Vancouver or Seattle (7 p.m. Pacific) | 10:00 p.m. | 11:00 p.m. |
| Saturday Sportsnet doubleheader (traditional slots) | 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. | 8:00 and 11:00 p.m. |
| Blue Jays evening game | 7:07 p.m. | 8:07 p.m. |
| Premier League, 3 p.m. kickoff in England | 10:00 a.m. | 11:00 a.m. |
| NFL Sunday afternoon games | 1:00 and about 4:25 p.m. | 2:00 and about 5:25 p.m. |
| IPTV Rich live chat desk | 9 a.m. to midnight | 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. |
Late games are where catch-up earns its keep. On channels that support catch-up, you can start an 11 p.m. game from the opening faceoff the next morning instead of staying up past one. Not every channel offers it, so check the ones you care about during the trial.
If the TV guide looks an hour off, set your streaming device’s time zone to Atlantic. The guide follows the device clock.
Where can you watch the Mooseheads and the Wanderers?
Mostly on the leagues’ own streaming services, with selected games on national TV. Here’s each team in turn.
Mooseheads (QMJHL)
The Mooseheads play at Scotiabank Centre in a league that, in December 2023, renamed itself the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, with “Maritimes” replacing “Major”. TSN and RDS have carried national CHL games in recent seasons, and TVA Sports has shown QMJHL games in French. Eastlink’s own TV service has also carried QMJHL games, but that’s a cable channel, so don’t expect it in an IPTV list. The QMJHL site names the broadcaster for each game.
HFX Wanderers (CPL)
The Wanderers play at Wanderers Grounds on the Halifax Common. In 2026, TSN shows a weekly CPL Match of the Week, CBC and CBC Gem air selected games, and every match streams on the league’s partner. The regular season ends Sunday, October 25, the Wanderers were in the playoff race in early October, and playoff games are set for TSN and CBC. The CPL schedule shows which matches are on TV.
No CFL team, but every game on TSN
Halifax doesn’t have a CFL team, but plenty of people here still pick one. Every CFL game airs on TSN in 2026, with RDS adding selected games in French, and the 2026 Grey Cup is on Sunday, November 15, from McMahon Stadium in Calgary, on TSN and CTV in English and RDS in French. Western games kick off late on a Halifax clock, so a Friday night game in Vancouver or Calgary is one for catch-up. Our post on watching the CFL and the Grey Cup in Canada covers the rest of the season.
Thunderbirds and Tides
The Halifax Thunderbirds play National Lacrosse League games at Scotiabank Centre, and Halifax Tides FC play in the Northern Super League, the women’s pro soccer league. Where their games air can change from season to season, so check each league’s site before game day rather than expecting them in a channel list.
Which NHL teams have regional games in Halifax?
The Senators and the Canadiens. TSN 5 serves eastern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, and when the Senators renewed with Bell Media in April 2026, their regional games stayed on TSN in English and RDS in French across that whole area. The Canadiens’ 50 regional English games are on TSN 2, which shares the TSN 5 audience, and their French games are split between RDS (45) and TVA Sports (32).
Halifax has its share of Leafs fans too. They mostly watch national games on Sportsnet, because the Leafs’ regional package is built around Ontario on TSN 4 and Sportsnet Ontario. Sportsnet East is the Sportsnet feed for this part of the country, and with CBC out of NHL hockey from 2026–27, Saturday night belongs to Sportsnet as well. For a full rundown of the season, read how to watch the 2026–27 NHL season in Canada without cable.
Eastlink or Bell Aliant: what matters for streaming in Halifax?
Neither brand is better for IPTV on its own; a wired TV and a steady evening connection matter more. Eastlink, headquartered in Halifax, runs the cable network, and Bell Aliant sells fibre across much of the urban core and the suburbs. Either one can carry Full HD streams when the home network is set up well, and you don’t need their TV service for IPTV.
Peninsula houses split into flats
Many older wooden houses in the South End and North End are divided into two to four units, each with its own router. Wood frame is easy on Wi-Fi, but four routers in one house crowd the airwaves. Use the 5 GHz band and, if the TV is near the modem, plug it in.
New towers downtown, in Dartmouth and in Bedford
Concrete floors and steel framing block more signal than wood, and a tower full of routers adds interference. If your unit has a network jack near the TV, use it.
The Eastern Shore, the Musquodoboit Valley and Prospect
The Halifax Regional Municipality covers about 5,475 square kilometres, and much of it is rural. Out past Porters Lake, in the Musquodoboit Valley or along the Prospect peninsula, many homes use Starlink, Xplore or fixed wireless. Plan on HD, about 5 Mbps per stream, rather than 4K at 25 Mbps, and remember that Full HD uses about 3 GB an hour if your plan has a cap. Our guide to IPTV on rural internet in Canada covers these connections in more depth.
After a storm
When an autumn storm knocks the power out, IPTV comes back only once both power and internet do. Restart in order: the modem or router first, wait until its internet light is steady, then the streaming device. Our post on restarting your router and clearing the DNS cache explains why the order matters.
Arabic, Mandarin, Acadian French: which package fits a Halifax home?
Most Halifax homes are fine with English-only, but pick the Full package if anyone watches in French or another language. In the 2021 census, 86% of residents had English as their mother tongue. French was the mother tongue of about 3.2%, many of them in Acadian communities such as Chezzetcook, and the Full package carries ICI Radio-Canada Télé, RDS and TVA.
Arabic (about 2%) and Mandarin (1.4%) are the most common other mother tongues, followed by Punjabi, Tagalog and Hindi. International channels in the Full package are listed by country, but a country’s selection can change without notice, so we never promise a named foreign channel. Look for the one you want during the trial.
Students at Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s and the city’s other campuses often want news from home on a short budget. A 1-device plan for 6 months is $47, paid once, and nothing renews when it runs out.
When is IPTV Rich the wrong choice in Halifax?
It’s the wrong pick in a few situations, and you should know them before you pay:
- You mainly want Mooseheads games. Most stream only on the league’s service.
- You’re on a capped satellite plan on the Eastern Shore, or you want everything in 4K.
- You count on Eastlink’s community channel. It’s a cable-only service and won’t be in an IPTV list.
- You want to pay by card or talk to someone by phone. We take Interac e-Transfer only and help by live chat and email, with no phone line.

Halifax IPTV questions
Why are Senators games on TSN 5 in Nova Scotia?
TSN 5 is the regional TSN feed for eastern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, which is the Senators’ broadcast region. Their regional games air there in English, and on RDS in French.
What time is live chat open in Atlantic Time?
The desk is staffed every day from 9 a.m. to midnight Eastern, which is 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. in Halifax. Outside those hours, an automatic assistant may reply and the team follows up in the morning.
Can I watch Mooseheads games with IPTV Rich?
Only the ones that air on a TV channel in the list, such as a national CHL game on TSN or RDS. Most Mooseheads games stream only on the league’s own service.
Can I watch an 11 p.m. game the next morning?
Often, yes. Catch-up works on supported channels, so you can start the game from the beginning the next day. Check during the trial that the channel you need supports it.
Does IPTV Rich work on Eastlink internet?
Yes. IPTV runs on any home internet, including Eastlink cable and Bell Aliant fibre. Keep the internet, skip the TV package, and connect the main TV with a cable if you can.
