Short answer: On Apple TV 4K, iPhone or iPad, install an IPTV player from the App Store that supports Xtream Codes or M3U playlists. Open it, add a playlist with the username, password and server URL we send you, and wait for channels and the guide to load. TiviMate isn’t available on Apple devices. AirPlay works, but installing the player on the Apple TV itself plays better.
Which IPTV player should you use on Apple TV and iPhone?
Use a player that accepts an Xtream Codes login and has an Apple TV version. Several do. None of them come with channels: they play what your login opens. App Store listings, prices and features change, and Apple sometimes removes apps, so check before you pay.
| Look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| “Xtream Codes” in the description | One login loads channels, the TV guide and movies. An M3U-only player needs a separate guide link. |
| An Apple TV (tvOS) version | Some players are iPhone-only. Check the listing’s supported devices. |
| TV guide (EPG) and catch-up support | Lets you see what’s on and rewind on channels that offer catch-up |
| A recent update date | An app untouched for a year or more may break on the next tvOS or iOS update |
| A clear price | Free with ads, a one-time price or a subscription, paid to the app maker, not to us |
| Sync between devices | Some players share your playlist between iPhone and Apple TV, so you only type it once |
Players listed in the Canadian App Store in October 2026 include Smarters Player Lite (from the Smarters developer), IPTVX, UHF and iPlayTV, all of which run on Apple TV as well as iPhone and iPad. The original GSE Smart IPTV is no longer listed, and many look-alike “Smarters” apps come from other developers, so check the developer name before you install. For a quick test with an M3U link, the free VLC player also runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, though it has no TV guide.
What do you need before you start?
- An Apple TV 4K, iPhone or iPad with the latest tvOS or iOS (on Apple TV: Settings > System > Software Updates).
- Your Apple Account signed in to the App Store.
- Your IPTV Rich login: username, password and server URL, or the M3U link.
- About 5 Mbps per HD stream at the device, 10 Mbps for Full HD or 25 Mbps for 4K.
How do you set up IPTV on an Apple TV 4K?
- Open the App Store on the Apple TV. Go to the Search tab and type the player’s name, or
IPTV player. - Install the player. Select Get (or the price), and confirm.
- Add a playlist. Open the player and choose to add a playlist or account. Pick Xtream Codes if offered.
- Type your login with your iPhone. When a text box is selected on the Apple TV, your iPhone usually shows a keyboard notification. Tap it and paste the server URL, username and password from your email.
- Load channels. Save, then wait while channels and the guide download. The first load takes longer than later ones.
- Test and set favourites. Play TSN 1 or CTV for a few minutes, then add the channels you watch most to Favourites.
How do you set up IPTV on an iPhone or iPad?
- Install the player from the App Store. Use the same player as on your Apple TV if it has both versions; some sync your playlist.
- Paste your login. Copy each part of your login from the email and paste it in. Pasting avoids typos in the password and server URL.
- Load and play. Open live channels and wait for the first load.
- Set data limits. In Settings > Cellular (Mobile Data on some phones), you can turn off mobile data for the player so it only streams on Wi-Fi.
On mobile data, HD uses about 1.5 to 2 GB an hour. A three-hour Blue Jays game can use around 5 GB, which matters on a 10 GB phone plan.
Some players support Picture in Picture on iPhone and iPad. Start a channel, swipe up to the home screen, and the game keeps playing in a small window you can drag to a corner. If the window doesn’t appear, the player doesn’t offer it.
How do you get the TV guide and catch-up on Apple devices?
With an Xtream Codes login, the guide comes with your channels: nothing extra to add. Give it a minute after the first load, then open the player’s guide or EPG view. With an M3U link, many players need a second address for the guide (the XMLTV or EPG link). Ask us in chat and paste it into the player’s EPG setting.
Catch-up lets you go back to a program that already aired, on channels that support it. In most players, you open the guide, move left to an earlier time slot, and select the program. Channels with catch-up usually show a small clock or rewind icon. If you missed the first period of a Canucks game on Sportsnet Pacific, this is how you start from puck drop.
Not every App Store player supports catch-up. If it matters to you, check the listing before you pay.

Ask for it in live chat: enter your number, tap "Free trial", and your trial login arrives in the conversation.
Can you AirPlay IPTV from an iPhone to the TV?
Yes, if the player supports AirPlay. Tap the AirPlay button in the player and choose your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV. If the player has no AirPlay button, Screen Mirroring in Control Center copies your whole screen. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi. Apple explains both methods on its AirPlay support page.
It works, but it’s the second-best option:
- The stream travels from the internet to your phone, then over Wi-Fi again to the TV. That doubles the load on your Wi-Fi.
- Your phone has to stay on, nearby and charged for the whole game.
- Mirroring sends a copy of your screen, so quality drops and notifications show up on the TV.
If you watch on the TV most nights, install the player on the Apple TV itself.
What are the best Apple TV settings for IPTV?
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Format (Settings > Video and Audio > Format) | 4K SDR | Most channels are SDR. With Match Content on, the Apple TV still switches to HDR when a stream is HDR. |
| Match Content: Match Dynamic Range and Match Frame Rate (Settings > Video and Audio) | On | Stops judder on sports shot at 60 frames and on films |
| Network | Ethernet, if your Apple TV 4K has the port | Not every model has one. Wired gives the steadiest live stream. |
| Player buffer (if offered) | Medium or Large | More cushion against short dips. See buffer size settings. |
| Stream format (if the player offers TS or HLS) | Try the other one if a channel stutters | Some streams play more smoothly in one format on Apple devices |
| Channel package | English-only if you only watch English channels | A shorter list loads faster in some Apple TV players. Choose it at checkout. |
For more on stutter, read how to stream IPTV on Apple TV without stuttering.
What if IPTV won’t play on Apple TV or iPhone?
Logged in, but no channels
Check the server URL includes http:// and the port number exactly as sent, then refresh the playlist. Some players only accept the M3U link; if so, paste that instead.
“Invalid credentials” or error 401
Delete the playlist and paste the login again. An expired trial gives the same error. See IPTV error codes explained.
Buffering or freezing
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > System > Restart), then follow the IPTV buffering fixes. If you’re on Wi-Fi, see Wi-Fi vs Ethernet for IPTV.
The player closes while loading channels
A very large list can be too much for some players. Force-close the app (on Apple TV, press the TV button twice and swipe the app up), open it again and let it finish loading without pressing anything. If it keeps crashing, try another player, or ask us about the shorter English-only list.
Sound out of sync
Most players have an audio delay setting. More in audio out of sync fixes.
Still stuck? Tell us your device, the player and what happens in live chat. Other devices are in the IPTV installation guide. To see what the service includes, read about watching CTV, TSN and Sportsnet without cable, and compare the IPTV subscription plans for 1 to 3 screens.
Questions people ask
Is TiviMate available on Apple TV or iPhone?
No. TiviMate is an Android app. On Apple devices, use an App Store player that supports Xtream Codes.
Do I have to pay for an IPTV player on Apple TV?
Some players are free with ads, others cost a one-time price or a subscription. That money goes to the app maker. Your IPTV Rich plan is separate.
Can I watch on my iPhone and Apple TV at the same time?
Yes, on a 2-device plan or bigger. A 1-device plan plays one stream at a time.
Can I watch on my Mac too?
Yes. Some App Store players have Mac versions, and VLC opens your M3U link on any Mac. See the Windows and Mac setup guide.
Does IPTV work on the older Apple TV HD?
It can, if the player still supports its tvOS version, but it tops out at 1080p and is slower with large channel lists. An Apple TV 4K is the better choice.
