Short answer: On a Fire TV Stick 4K Max, 4K Plus, Fire TV Cube or Fire TV smart TV, install Downloader from the Appstore, allow it under Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install unknown apps, download TiviMate from its official source, then enter your username, password and server URL. Vega OS sticks, including the 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K, can’t install these players.
Will IPTV work on your Fire TV model?
It depends on the software inside. Amazon’s older software, Fire OS, is based on Android and lets you install player apps from outside the Appstore. Its newer software, Vega OS, only runs apps from the Amazon Appstore, and most IPTV players aren’t there. Amazon has said all its future Fire TV Sticks will run Vega OS.
| Model | Software | Can install IPTV players? |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2021 and 2023) | Fire OS 7 or 8 | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) | Fire OS 8 | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd gen, 2023) | Fire OS 8 | Yes |
| Fire TV Cube | Fire OS | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick HD (2024), Fire TV Stick (3rd gen), Fire TV Stick Lite | Fire OS 7 | Yes, HD only and slower |
| Smart TVs with Fire TV built in (Insignia, Toshiba and others) | Fire OS | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) | Vega OS | No |
| Fire TV Stick HD (2026) | Vega OS | No |
| Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd gen, 2026) | Vega OS | No |
To check yours, open Settings > My Fire TV > About and look at the software version. If it says Fire OS, follow this guide. If it just says OS and the number starts with 1 or 2, it’s Vega OS. Amazon lists models on its Which Fire TV device do I have? help page, and the operating system for each stick on its Fire TV device specifications.
What do you need before you start?
- A Fire OS device from the table above, updated (Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates).
- Your IPTV Rich login: username, password and server URL, from your trial or order.
- Internet at the TV of about 5 Mbps per HD stream, 10 Mbps for Full HD or 25 Mbps for 4K.
- About 20 minutes and your phone, to read the login while you type.
- Optional: Amazon’s Ethernet adapter. It runs at up to 100 Mbps, plenty for one 4K stream.
How do you allow apps from unknown sources on a Fire TV?
You give one app, Downloader, permission to install other apps. Nothing else on the stick changes.
- Install Downloader. From the home screen choose Find > Search, type
Downloader, pick the Downloader app by AFTVnews and select Get or Download. - Open Settings > My Fire TV. If you see Developer Options, skip the next step.
- Show Developer Options. Select About, then press the select button on your device name (for example “Fire TV Stick 4K Max”) seven times until a message says you’re a developer. Press Back.
- Allow Downloader. Open Developer Options > Install unknown apps, select Downloader and set it to On. On older Fire OS versions the switch is called Apps from Unknown Sources.
Downloader missing from the list? Back out, wait a few seconds and open the list again, or restart the stick (hold Select and Play/Pause together for about five seconds).
How do you install TiviMate on a Fire TV Stick?
TiviMate is our first pick on Fire TV: a cable-style TV guide, fast channel changes and good remote control. It isn’t reliably listed in the Amazon Appstore, so on Fire OS devices it’s installed with Downloader. For a deeper walk-through with screenshots, see how to set up TiviMate on a Fire TV Stick.
- Open Downloader. Allow access to files if it asks, and close the welcome notes.
- Enter the official download address. In the Home tab, type the address of TiviMate’s official download, or a Downloader short code from a source you trust, and select Go. Not sure which link is official? Ask us in live chat.
- Install the app. When the download finishes, the installer opens. Select Install, then Done.
- Delete the installer file. Downloader offers to delete the file it downloaded. Select Delete twice to get the space back.
- Open TiviMate and add a playlist. Choose Add playlist, then Xtream Codes. Enter the server URL, username and password exactly as sent, then Next.
- Finish and wait for the guide. TiviMate shows how many channels and movies it found. Select Next, name the playlist
IPTV Richand select Done. The TV guide fills in over a minute or two.
The free TiviMate plays live channels. Its paid Premium upgrade, bought through the TiviMate Companion app on an Android phone, adds extras such as catch-up, recording and multi-view. You don’t need it to test your trial.
How do you install IPTV Smarters Pro or IBO Player instead?
IPTV Smarters Pro
- Search the Appstore first. If the official IPTV Smarters Pro appears, install it from there. If not, download it in Downloader from the official IPTV Smarters website.
- Choose the Xtream login. Open the app, accept the terms and pick Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Enter your details. Any name, then username, password and URL from your login message. Select Add User.
- Open Live TV. The first load downloads channels and the guide. Then pick a category and a channel.
IBO Player
IBO Player works differently: on first launch it shows a MAC address and a device key. You add your playlist on the IBO Player website, not on the TV. After its trial, the app maker charges an activation fee. The MAC activation steps in our smart TV guide apply to Fire TV too, and the IBO Player setup guide covers its settings.
Free 24-hour trial
Ask for it in live chat: enter your number, tap "Free trial", and your trial login arrives in the conversation.
What are the best IPTV settings on a Fire TV Stick?
Start with these. Names differ a little between app versions, but each app has the same switches somewhere in its settings.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer size (player’s playback settings) | Medium; Large if channels freeze | A bigger buffer rides out short dips, but channels take a moment longer to start. See how to increase buffer size. |
| Video decoder | Hardware (the default) | Fire TV chips decode HD and 4K in hardware. Try software only if one channel shows a black screen. See hardware vs software decoding. |
| Auto frame rate (in TiviMate) and Match Original Frame Rate (Fire TV: Settings > Display & Sounds > Display) | On, on 4K models | Hockey and football shot at 60 frames move without judder. |
| Video resolution (Settings > Display & Sounds > Display) | Auto | The stick picks the best your TV accepts. |
| TV guide update | Once a day, or on app start | Keeps the guide current without slowing every start. |
| Connection | Ethernet adapter, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi | The stick’s antenna is small and sits behind the TV. |
Which Fire TV remote shortcuts help with IPTV?
| Press | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hold Home for about 3 seconds | Quick menu: Apps, Sleep, Mirroring and Settings |
| Hold Select and Play/Pause for about 5 seconds | Restarts the Fire TV, the first fix for a frozen stick |
| Menu button (three lines) on an app tile | Options such as Move to front, so your player sits first in the app row |
| In TiviMate: OK during playback | Opens the channel list; long-press OK on a channel to add it to Favourites |
| Hold Back and the right side of the ring for 10 seconds | Starts a factory reset. Avoid it unless you mean it. |
How do you free up storage on a Fire TV Stick?
Most sticks have 8 GB of storage, and a nearly full stick gets slow and crashes. The 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K Max has 16 GB.
- Check free space. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage.
- Clear app caches. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, pick an app and select Clear cache. Don’t select Clear data on your player unless you’re ready to add your playlist and favourites again.
- Uninstall what you don’t use. Games and old trial apps take the most space.
- Delete leftover installer files. In Downloader, open Files and delete old downloads.
What if channels won’t load or keep buffering on Fire TV?
The app logs in, but there are no channels
The server URL is usually missing http:// or the port number. Edit the playlist, re-enter the URL exactly as sent, and refresh. If you picked the English-only package, French and international channels won’t appear; that’s expected.
“Invalid login”, “authorization failed” or error 401
Delete the playlist and add it again, checking capitals and trailing spaces. An expired trial gives the same error. Our page on IPTV error codes 401, 403, 404, 500 and 509 explains each one.
Buffering or freezing
Restart the stick, then test on another channel. If several freeze, work through the IPTV buffering fixes in order. If it only happens after supper, read why IPTV slows down in the evening on Bell and Rogers.

Questions people ask
Is TiviMate in the Amazon Appstore?
Not reliably. TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro have generally not been listed there, so on Fire OS devices you install them with Downloader. Search the Appstore first anyway: if the official app appears, use that copy.
Can I use IPTV on the new 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K?
Not with the usual players. The 3rd-generation Fire TV Stick 4K, the 2026 Fire TV Stick HD and the Fire TV Stick 4K Select run Vega OS, which only installs Appstore apps. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Cube still run Fire OS.
Is it safe to allow unknown apps?
It’s as safe as what you install. The permission only applies to Downloader, so only download from official sources. You can switch it off after installing and back on when the player needs an update.
Can I use one login on two Fire TV Sticks?
Yes, install it on both. They can play at the same time only on a 2-device plan or bigger; a 1-device plan plays one stream at a time.
Why is my Fire TV Stick so slow?
Usually low storage or an older model. Clear caches, uninstall unused apps and restart. Older sticks such as the Fire TV Stick Lite have less memory and can be slow with a very large channel list; the shorter English-only package helps.
