How to Set Up IPTV on a Formuler, BuzzTV or MAG Box (2026)

Dedicated IPTV boxes are the most cable-like way to watch: a real remote, a fast guide and no app store hunting. Formuler and BuzzTV use a built-in player. MAG boxes use a portal tied to the box's MAC address, which we link for you.

Short answer: On a Formuler box, open MYTVOnline and add IPTV Rich as a portal or with your username, password and server URL. On a BuzzTV box, add the same login in its built-in player. On a MAG box, send us the MAC address from the sticker under the box; we link it and give you the portal URL to enter under Settings > System settings > Servers > Portals.

Which IPTV box do you have, and how does it log in?

Boxes log in one of two ways. A portal login uses the box’s MAC address, which we link to your plan on our side. An Xtream login uses the username, password and server URL you type in. The table shows which applies.

What’s the difference for you day to day?

A portal login lives on one box. If you replace the box, or want to watch on another device, tell us and we’ll move or add it. An Xtream login works anywhere: the same username and password also open the app on your phone or a second TV, up to the number of screens your plan allows at once. If your box offers both, Xtream is the more flexible choice; the portal is the simpler one, because you type almost nothing.

What do you need before you start?

  • The box connected to the TV by HDMI, and to the router by Ethernet if possible.
  • For a portal login: the box’s MAC address. It’s on the sticker under the box and usually on the box’s info or status screen.
  • For an Xtream login: your username, password and server URL.
  • About 5 Mbps per HD stream, 10 Mbps for Full HD or 25 Mbps for 4K.

How do you set up IPTV on a Formuler box?

Menu names differ a little between MYTVOnline 3 and MYTVOnline 4, but the flow is the same.

  1. Update the box. Install any system or MYTVOnline update the box offers. Formuler posts manuals on its setup guides page.
  2. Open MYTVOnline. It’s on the home screen of Formuler Z boxes.
  3. Choose to add a portal or service. Look for Add Portal or a plus sign on the first screen.
  4. For a portal login, send us the MAC. MYTVOnline shows the box’s MAC address. Send it to us in live chat with your order number. When we confirm it’s linked, enter a nickname such as IPTV Rich and the portal URL we send, then Connect.
  5. For an Xtream login, type your details. If your version offers it, choose the Xtream option and enter the server URL, username and password.
  6. Wait for channels and the guide. The first load takes a few minutes. Then set your favourite channels.

How do you set up IPTV on a BuzzTV box?

BuzzTV boxes come with their own player app. Its menus change between models and updates, so the words below may differ slightly on your box.

  1. Open the BuzzTV player. It’s on the home screen.
  2. Find where you add a server or account. It’s usually in the player’s settings or on its first screen.
  3. Enter your login. Type the server URL, username and password exactly as sent, and save.
  4. Load and test. Wait for channels and the guide, then play a channel such as TSN 1.

Can’t find a place for a username? Message us the box model and a photo of the screen, and we’ll tell you which method it uses.

How do you set up IPTV on a MAG box?

A MAG box has no app to install. It logs in with its MAC address, and we do the linking.

  1. Find the MAC address. Look at the sticker under the box. It’s 12 characters in pairs, and on MAG boxes it usually starts with 00:1A:79.
  2. Send it to us. Open live chat, give your order number or trial request, and type or photograph the MAC. We link it to your plan and reply with the portal URL.
  3. Open the portal settings. On the box, go to Settings > System settings > Servers > Portals.
  4. Enter the portal. Set Portal 1 name to IPTV Rich and Portal 1 URL to the address we sent, exactly as written.
  5. Save and restart. Save, go back and restart the box. The portal loads with channels and the TV guide.

Leave the second portal field empty unless we send you a second address. Infomir, the company that makes MAG boxes, answers common questions about portals in its MAG FAQ. If you replace your MAG box, the new one has a different MAC: send it to us and we’ll move your plan over.

What should you check on a used or second-hand box?

Used boxes are common on Kijiji and Marketplace, and most work fine. Check three things before you set one up:

  • Old portals and logins. The seller’s service may still be saved on it. Delete old portals and playlists, or do a factory reset from the box’s settings, so you only see IPTV Rich.
  • The MAC on the sticker matches the screen. If the sticker is worn, read the MAC from the box’s info screen instead, and send us a photo of both.
  • Updates still arrive. A box the maker no longer updates may not play newer video formats. If a 4K channel shows a black screen while HD channels play, that’s often why.

What are the best settings for an IPTV box?

SettingValueWhy
ConnectionEthernetMost IPTV boxes have an Ethernet port. Wired is the steadiest way to watch live sports.
Time zoneYour own (Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Atlantic or Newfoundland)The TV guide uses the box clock. A wrong zone shifts every program time.
Video outputAuto, or your TV’s top resolutionAvoids a mismatch that causes a black screen on some TVs
Auto frame rate (if the box offers it)OnSmoother motion on 60-frame sports channels
Player buffer (if offered)Medium or LargeMore cushion against short dips. See buffer size settings.
UpdatesInstall, and never unplug during oneA power cut mid-update can leave the box unable to start

What if your IPTV box won’t load channels?

A message says the box isn’t authorized or is blocked

The MAC isn’t linked yet, or a character was read wrong. A 0 and an O, or a B and an 8, are easy to mix up. Send us a clear photo of the sticker in chat.

The portal keeps loading and never opens

The portal URL has a typo or a missing character at the end. Re-enter it exactly as sent, save and restart. If the box shows an error code, see IPTV error codes explained.

Buffering or freezing

Restart the box and the router, then follow the IPTV buffering fixes. The right way to restart is in how to restart your router and clear the DNS cache. Several TVs on one connection? Read running IPTV on several TVs in one home.

The guide shows the wrong times or nothing

Check the box’s time zone first, then see EPG not updating.

Every other device is in the IPTV installation guide, including Samsung and LG TV apps. To add a second box, compare the 1, 2 and 3-device plans, or read more about our IPTV Canada service.

Questions people ask

Do I need to buy an IPTV box?

No. A box is one option. A Fire TV Stick, a Google TV device, a smart TV app, an Apple TV or a phone all work with the same login.

What happens if I replace my MAG box?

Your plan is linked to the old box’s MAC address. Send us the new MAC in chat and we’ll move your plan to it.

Can I use my MAG box and my phone at the same time?

Yes, on a 2-device plan or bigger. Each screen playing at once counts as one device.

Should I buy a box sold as “fully loaded”?

We wouldn’t. A “fully loaded” box comes with apps and services you know nothing about, and they can stop working at any time. Buy a plain box and choose your own service.

Does a MAG box show the TV guide and catch-up?

Yes. The portal includes the TV guide, and catch-up on the channels that support it.
