Short answer: Install IBO Player from your TV’s app store and open it once to start the 7-day trial. Write down the MAC address and 6-digit device key it shows. On your phone, go to the IBO website, choose Manage Playlist, sign in with those two codes and add your Xtream Codes details. Restart the app. Buy the app activation before the trial ends.
How does IBO Player work, and who do you pay?
IBO Player is an empty player that you fill from a website. The app on your TV shows two codes, you type those codes on the IBO website from a phone or computer, and you add your playlist there. The TV then downloads it. You never type a long server address with the TV remote, which is the main reason people pick IBO on a Samsung or LG.
That also means there are two separate payments, to two separate companies. People mix them up all the time, so here they are side by side.
| The IBO Player app | Your IPTV subscription | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The player software on your TV | The channels, movies and series you log in to |
| Who you pay | The app’s developer, on its own website | Your provider. With IPTV Rich, ITLOGY LLC by Interac e-Transfer |
| Free period | 7-day trial from the first launch | Our 24-hour free trial, requested in live chat |
| Options after the free period | 1-year or lifetime activation, priced on the developer’s site | 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, on 1, 2 or 3 devices |
| Tied to | One TV’s MAC address | Your username and password, usable in any app |
IPTV Rich doesn’t sell IBO activations and can’t refund one. IBO’s own site says it won’t refund an activation bought without a working playlist, or bought when something on your side isn’t working. So use the 7-day trial to prove everything works on your TV first, then pay for the app.
The cleanest way to do that: install IBO, start the app trial, then ask us for the 24-hour IPTV free trial and add those details as your playlist. You’ll know within an evening whether the TV, the app, your Wi-Fi and the service all work together.
Which IBO app should you install, and on which TV?
Install the app called IBO Player from your TV’s own app store, and check that the website printed on its start screen is the one you’ll use to manage it. There’s a whole family of apps with “IBO” in the name, from different developers, and each one has its own website and its own activation.
The guide below follows IBO Player from iboplayer.com. Its sister apps, IBO Player Pro (iboplayerpro.com) and IBO Pro Player TV (iboproplayertv.com), use the same activation system and the same steps. Other look-alike apps in the stores work differently, so if your app’s start screen names a different website, follow that site’s steps instead.
| Your TV or device | Where to find IBO Player | Our note |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung smart TV (Tizen) | Home > Apps > search icon > “IBO Player” | The usual reason Canadians pick IBO. No stick needed. |
| LG smart TV (webOS) | Home > Apps (the LG Content Store) > search | Newer models load big channel lists faster; very old ones can lag. |
| Sony, TCL, Hisense and other Google TV sets | Google Play on the TV | Same steps as Android TV boxes. |
| Android TV boxes | Google Play | Ethernet port on most boxes, which helps. |
| Roku | Roku Channel Store | Listed on IBO’s site. Check it appears for your model before planning around it. |
| Apple TV, iPhone, iPad | App Store; check the developer and website | Several “IBO” apps from different developers appear in the Canadian store. |
| Fire TV Stick | Not on IBO’s list of platforms | Use TiviMate or Smarters on Fire TV instead. |
Hisense TVs sold in Canada often run VIDAA rather than Google TV. If yours does, look in the VIDAA app store first, and if IBO isn’t there, our roundup of the best IPTV players for Samsung and LG TVs lists other options. For the TV side of things, menu by menu, see our smart TV setup guide.
How do you install IBO Player and find your MAC address and device key?
You install the app, open it once, and copy two codes from the start screen. Do one thing first, though: connect the TV the way it will stay connected. The reason is in step 1.
- Pick Wi-Fi or Ethernet now, and keep it. IBO’s own help explains that each TV has two MAC addresses, one for Wi-Fi and one for Ethernet, and the app uses whichever is active. Your activation and playlist are tied to that MAC. If you set up on Wi-Fi and plug in a cable next week, the app shows a different MAC and an empty screen. If an Ethernet cable can reach the TV, plug it in before you start.
- Install IBO Player. Search for it in your TV’s app store, check the name and the website shown in the description, and install it.
- Open it once. The 7-day trial starts on the first launch. You don’t need to sign up for anything.
- Find the two codes. The start screen shows a MAC address, six pairs of letters and numbers separated by colons (for example
00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E), and a device key, which is six digits, numbers only. - Take a photo of the screen. Use your phone. It saves you from misreading a
Bas an8later, and you’ll need the codes again for the activation. - Leave the app open. Go to your phone or computer for the next part.
How do you add your playlist on the IBO website?
You sign in to the IBO website with the MAC address and device key, then add your login as an “XC playlist”. XC is short for Xtream Codes, the username, password and server address you get from your provider.
- Open the IBO website on your phone or computer. Choose Manage Playlist (it may also read “Login to add your playlist”).
- Sign in with your codes. Type the MAC address exactly as shown, with the colons, and the 6-digit device key.
- Choose Add XC Playlist. You’ll see four fields: Playlist name, Host, Username and Password.
- Fill in the fields. Use the table below. Copy and paste from your welcome email where you can, then check for a stray space at the end.
- Tick “Protect this playlist” if children use the TV. It locks the playlist behind a PIN.
- Save. The playlist now shows in your list on the website.
- Restart IBO Player on the TV. Exit the app fully and open it again. On most Samsung remotes, holding Back exits an app; on any TV, switching it off at the wall for a minute does the job. Pick the new playlist when the app asks.
- Wait for the first load. The channel list, the movie library and the guide download the first time. On an older TV this can take a few minutes. Don’t press buttons while it works.
| IBO field | What to type | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist name | Anything, e.g. IPTV Rich or Basement | None; it’s a label |
| Host | The server URL from your welcome email, e.g. http://server.example:8080 | Leaving out http:// or the port after the colon |
| Username | Your username, exactly | Phone keyboards capitalize the first letter |
| Password | Your password, exactly | A space pasted at the end |
Other playlist types on the same page
The IBO page also offers Add Playlist, for a single M3U or M3U8 link, and Add Stalker Portal, for MAG-style portal logins.
- M3U link: the Playlist URL field must start with
http://. There’s an optional XMLTV EPG URL field. Fill it if your provider gave you a separate guide address, or the TV guide may be empty. - Stalker portal: this uses a portal address and a MAC address instead of a username and password, with an optional fallback address. Use it only if your provider set you up as a portal line, which is unusual for an app like IBO.
For an IPTV Rich line, XC is the right choice. It sorts live channels, movies and series into their own sections and brings the TV guide in without a separate address. If you’d like the M3U version anyway, ask in live chat.
How do you activate IBO Player after the 7-day trial?
You buy the activation on the IBO website with the same two codes. It’s a one-time payment to the app developer, either for one year or for the life of the app on that TV. Prices are set by the developer and shown at checkout on their page, so we don’t quote them here.
- Make sure you’re on the connection you’ll keep. Wi-Fi or Ethernet, as in the install steps. You’re about to pay for one MAC address.
- Open the activation page on the IBO website. Look for Activate or Activate Device in the menu.
- Enter the MAC address and device key. The page checks them before it shows payment options.
- Choose 1-year or lifetime. Lifetime makes sense if you’ll keep this TV for years. One year makes sense on an older TV you may replace.
- Pay and wait. IBO’s page says activation can take up to one hour after payment.
- Restart the app. The trial notice disappears. On the website, your device’s status changes from Trial to Active.
Your IPTV subscription runs on its own clock. Nothing on our side renews automatically, and an IBO activation doesn’t extend it. When your plan ends, you renew it and keep the same IBO activation. If a renewal comes with new login details, edit the XC playlist on the IBO website rather than adding a second one.
When you’re ready to move from the free trial to a paid line, our IPTV subscription paid by Interac shows every price. 12 months on 1 device is $77, which is $127 less than paying $17 twelve times.

Open live chatWhich IBO Player settings actually change what you see?
A handful, and some of the most useful ones live on the TV rather than in the app. IBO’s menus differ a little between the Samsung, LG and Android versions, so we describe what to look for rather than an exact path.
| Where | Setting to look for | What we suggest | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBO settings | Change playlist | Keep one active playlist | Two similar playlists double the loading and confuse the guide |
| IBO settings | Language | English or French, if your build offers it | Handy in bilingual homes in Montreal, Gatineau or Moncton |
| IBO settings | Time format | 12-hour or 24-hour, whichever you read faster | Guide times are easier to scan |
| IBO settings | Parental control / parent PIN | Set a PIN and lock the groups you don’t want shown | Kids can’t open locked groups |
| IBO settings | Hide categories | Hide the country groups you never watch | Shorter lists, faster scrolling with the remote |
| IBO settings | Refresh or reload playlist | Use after any change on the website | The TV doesn’t always pick up edits until it reloads |
| TV picture menu | Picture mode | Movie or Filmmaker mode for films, Standard for sports | Vivid modes clip detail in bright scenes like a white hockey rink |
| TV picture menu | Motion smoothing (Samsung: Picture Clarity; LG: TruMotion) | Try on and off during a hockey game | Some people like it for fast play; it makes films look like soap operas |
| TV network menu | Wired connection | Use Ethernet if a cable can reach | Steadier than Wi-Fi through floors, and fixes your MAC for good |
Trimming the channel list on a slow TV
Hiding groups is the single best speed fix in IBO on an older Samsung or LG. A full line carries Canadian, US, UK, French and international groups, and the TV redraws every group you scroll past. If your household only watches the Canadian groups, CBC, CTV, Global, Citytv, TSN and Sportsnet, hide the rest. If you know you only want English channels, the English-only package at checkout keeps the list shorter from the start.
French households
For a Quebec family, keep the French groups visible and hide the ones you don’t use. That puts TVA, Noovo, ICI Radio-Canada Télé, Télé-Québec, RDS and TVA Sports a few clicks from the top. Our IPTV in Montreal page covers which Canadiens games air on which French and English channels.
Getting the guide right
If the guide is empty after an XC login, reload the playlist once and give it a few minutes. If shows are listed an hour off, check the TV’s own time zone setting first. Newfoundland is half an hour ahead of Atlantic time and most of Saskatchewan doesn’t change clocks, which trips up TVs set to the wrong zone. Our guide to fixing an EPG that won’t update has the rest.
What happens if your MAC address changes?
The app shows a new MAC address with no playlist and no activation. Your old activation isn’t lost. It’s still attached to the old MAC, and you have three ways to get back to it.
| What happened | What to do first | If that doesn’t work |
|---|---|---|
| You switched from Wi-Fi to Ethernet, or back | Switch back to the original connection and restart the app | Transfer the activation to the new MAC on the website |
| A TV update or app reinstall changed the MAC | Use the recovery code on the IBO website to move activation and playlists | Contact IBO through their site |
| You factory-reset the TV | Same as above: recovery code first | Transfer the activation |
| You bought a new TV | Transfer the activation from the old MAC to the new one | Buy a new activation for the new TV |
Two rules from IBO’s own pages are worth knowing before you use these tools. First, you can switch an activation to another MAC address only once, and the old device loses it when you do. Second, the recovery code works only for devices that were already activated, is single-use, and expires after a short time, so generate it when you’re standing in front of the TV.
How do you protect your IBO playlist from other people?
Anyone who knows your MAC address and device key can sign in to the IBO website and change your playlists. Those codes are printed on your TV screen, so treat them like a password.
- Reset the device key on the IBO website after a repair visit, after a guest has photographed the screen, or if you sell or give away the TV. The new key must be six digits, numbers only.
- Use “Protect this playlist” so the playlist on the TV sits behind a PIN.
- Reset the parent PIN on the website if you forget it. You don’t need to reinstall the app.
- Delete your playlist from the website before the TV leaves your home. Then transfer or let go of the activation.
Your IPTV username and password are separate from the IBO codes. If you think someone else is using your IPTV login, tell us in live chat. Changing the IBO device key doesn’t change your subscription login.
Why won’t IBO Player load your playlist?
Start with IBO’s own three-step check, because it splits app problems from line problems in a minute. Restart the app two or three times. If it still fails, load the demo playlist IBO offers. If the demo plays, the app and your internet are fine and the issue is the playlist or the line, so contact your provider. If the demo fails too, look at your internet connection and any blocking by your network.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No playlist on the TV after adding one on the website | The playlist was added to the other MAC (Wi-Fi vs Ethernet), or the app wasn’t restarted | Compare the MAC on screen to the one you signed in with; restart the app |
| Playlist error or failed to load | Typo in Host, Username or Password, or https instead of http | Edit the XC playlist on the website and retype the fields |
| App asks you to activate | The 7-day app trial ended | Activate on the IBO website; this is the app, not your IPTV line |
| Loads, but says the account expired | Your IPTV plan or trial ended | Renew the plan; edit the playlist if your details changed |
| Channels load but freeze often | Connection, server load or a slow TV (IBO lists all three) | Test speed on the TV’s network, close other apps, try Ethernet |
| Guide empty | M3U playlist with no EPG address, or the guide hasn’t loaded yet | Use XC instead of M3U, or add the XMLTV address |
| Playlist works on your computer, not on the TV | IBO says this can be a block by the network if the computer is on another network; on the same network, it points to the TV | Test both on the same Wi-Fi; restart the TV fully by unplugging it for a minute |
For the speed check, run Cloudflare’s speed test on a phone held next to the TV, on the same Wi-Fi network. A Full HD stream needs about 10 Mbps, steadily. A Rogers or Bell gateway in a front hallway often tests at a few hundred megabits beside the router and a fraction of that behind the TV in the back bedroom. Our post on Wi-Fi vs Ethernet for IPTV shows how to measure the gap.
A note on VPNs
IBO’s terms of use say that using a VPN or proxy with their service is prohibited and can lead to permanent suspension. If you run a VPN on your router for every device in the house, bear that in mind for the TV running IBO. Whether a VPN helps IPTV at all in Canada is a separate question, covered in does a VPN help or hurt IPTV.
Is IBO Player the right app for your setup?
IBO is the easy choice for a smart TV with no stick plugged in. It’s the wrong choice in a few situations.
- You use a Fire TV Stick. IBO doesn’t list Fire TV. Use Smarters or TiviMate; our IPTV Smarters Pro setup guide covers the same Xtream Codes login on Fire TV.
- You don’t want an app fee. IBO needs a paid activation after 7 days. Some players are free; our free vs paid IPTV players comparison weighs what you give up.
- You have several TVs. Each TV needs its own IBO activation because it’s tied to that TV’s MAC. Three TVs, three activations, on top of the device count on your IPTV plan. Our guide to running IPTV on several TVs in one home works out the cheapest mix.
- Your TV is old and slow. If menus lag in every app, IBO will lag too. An inexpensive streaming stick on the HDMI port will feel faster than any app setting.
Whatever player you settle on, the service behind it is the same: our Canadian IPTV service works in IBO, Smarters, TiviMate and other common players with the same login.
Questions people ask
Is IBO Player free?
It’s free for 7 days from the first launch. After that the developer asks for a paid activation, with 1-year and lifetime options, bought on their website with your MAC address and device key.
Does IPTV Rich sell IBO Player activations?
No. The IBO activation is paid to the app’s developer. We provide the IPTV subscription login that you add to IBO as a playlist.
Can one IBO activation cover two TVs?
No. An activation is tied to one TV’s MAC address, so each TV needs its own. The number of TVs that can play at once on your IPTV plan is a separate limit.
Where do I find the device key in IBO Player?
It’s the 6-digit number on the app’s start screen, next to the MAC address. You can reset it on the IBO website if someone else has seen it.
Why did my IBO playlist disappear?
Usually the TV switched between Wi-Fi and Ethernet, which changes the MAC address IBO uses. Switch back and restart the app, or move the activation with the recovery or transfer tools on the website.
