Short answer: On a Fire OS stick (Lite, 4K, 4K Max or 4K Plus), turn on Developer Options, let the Downloader app install unknown apps, then enter code 272483 or tivimate.com/apk, both published on TiviMate’s own site. Open TiviMate, pick Xtream Codes and type your server, username and password. The Vega OS sticks (4K Select, the 2026 HD and 2026 4K) can’t install it.

Which Fire TV Sticks can run TiviMate in 2026?

Every Fire TV Stick that runs Fire OS can run TiviMate. The sticks that run Amazon’s newer Vega OS can’t. Vega OS is not Android, and it only installs apps from the Amazon Appstore. TiviMate is an Android app that isn’t sold there, so on a Vega OS stick there is nothing to install.

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick spec sheet for developers lists the operating system of every model. Here is the short version for the sticks people own in Canada, with the best video each one can decode in hardware.

How to check which stick you have

  1. Open Settings. Press Home on the remote, then move right to the gear icon.
  2. Go to My Fire TV, then About. On a TV with Fire TV built in (Insignia, Toshiba and others), this menu can be called Device & Software.
  3. Read the first line and the software version. The first line is the model name, for example “Fire TV Stick 4K Max”. The software line tells you whether it runs Fire OS. If it says Fire OS, keep going with this guide.

If your stick is one of the three Vega OS models, stop here and save yourself an hour of searching for a workaround. Your choices are a Fire OS stick, or a Google TV or Android TV device, where TiviMate installs straight from Google Play. Our Android TV and Google TV setup guide covers that second route.

What do you need before you start?

You need a Fire OS stick on your home internet, your IPTV login details and about fifteen minutes. An Android phone only matters if you decide to buy TiviMate Premium later.

Ask for a 24-hour free trial in live chat and use the trial details for this whole guide. If the stick works well with the trial, it will work the same way with a paid plan.

How do you turn on Developer Options on a Fire TV Stick?

Select the device name in the About screen seven times. Developer Options is hidden on current versions of Fire OS, and this is how Amazon lets you reveal it, the same way Android phones do.

  1. Open Settings. Press Home, then select the gear icon on the far right.
  2. Go to My Fire TV > About. Wait for the screen to load fully.
  3. Select the device name seven times. Highlight the first line (for example “Fire TV Stick 4K Max”) and press the centre Select button seven times in a row. A countdown appears near the bottom. When it says “No need, you are already a developer”, you’re done.
  4. Press Back once. Developer Options now shows in the My Fire TV menu, under About.
  5. Leave ADB debugging off. You don’t need it for TiviMate. Keeping it off means no other device on your network can send commands to the stick.

How do you install TiviMate with the Downloader app?

Install Downloader from Amazon’s store, give it permission to install apps, then type TiviMate’s official code. TiviMate’s own website publishes the Downloader code 272483 and the short address tivimate.com/apk. The site also says this direct version checks for updates by itself, so you won’t need Downloader again for updates.

  1. Install Downloader. Press Home, select Find (the magnifying glass), then Search. Type Downloader, pick the orange app by AFTVnews and select Get or Download.
  2. Open Downloader once. Allow access to files and media when it asks. It needs this to save the installer.
  3. Allow Downloader to install apps. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install unknown apps, find Downloader and switch it to ON. On older Fire OS 6 sticks the switch is called Apps from Unknown Sources.
  4. Enter the code. In Downloader’s Home tab, select the address box, type 272483 and select Go. If the code doesn’t load on your network, type tivimate.com/apk instead.
  5. Install. When the download finishes, Fire OS shows an install screen. Select Install, wait, then select Done rather than Open, so you return to Downloader.
  6. Delete the installer file. Downloader offers to delete the APK. Select Delete, then Delete again. This frees space and does not remove TiviMate.
  7. Move TiviMate to your home row. Press Home, open Apps (the three squares), highlight TiviMate, press the Menu button (three lines) and choose Move to front.
  8. Turn the Downloader permission back off. This step is optional. Go back to Install unknown apps and switch Downloader to OFF. If TiviMate later offers an update and Fire OS stops it, switch Install unknown apps on for TiviMate itself.

What if the install fails?

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
“App installation blocked”From early 2026, Amazon blocks some sideloaded apps that it says give access to unlicensed content, and says it won’t make exceptions.Check that you typed the code from TiviMate’s site, not one from a video or forum. TiviMate is a player listed on Google Play. If an app from somewhere else is blocked, uninstall it rather than hunting for a workaround.
“There was a problem parsing the package”The download was cut short, or storage is full.Free some space, delete the partial file in Downloader’s Files tab and download again.
“App not installed”An older copy of TiviMate from another source is already on the stick.Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > TiviMate > Uninstall, then install again. You’ll need to re-add your playlist.
Downloader can’t load the codeA DNS setting or router filter is blocking the short-code service.Type tivimate.com/apk instead. If that also fails, restart the router. Our guide to the best DNS for streaming in Canada explains filters that block downloads.
Downloader isn’t in the Install unknown apps listDownloader hasn’t been opened yet, or an update reset the list.Open Downloader once, check Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates, restart the stick and look again.

How do you add your IPTV login to TiviMate?

Open TiviMate, choose Add playlist, pick Xtream Codes and type the three details from your login email. TiviMate then loads the live channels, movies, series and TV guide by itself.

  1. Open TiviMate and select Add playlist. On a fresh install this is the first screen you see.
  2. Choose Xtream Codes. The button may read “Xtream Codes login”. Choose Enter URL only if you were given a single M3U link instead.
  3. Type the server address. Include http:// and the port, for example http://line.example.com:8080. Typing with the remote is slow, so install the Amazon Fire TV app on your phone, connect it to the stick and use the phone keyboard.
  4. Type the username and password. Both are case-sensitive. A capital O and a zero look alike in some fonts, so copy and paste from the email on your phone when you can.
  5. Select Next and wait. TiviMate shows how many channels, movies and TV shows it found. On the Full channels package the first load can take a minute or two because the list is large.
  6. Name the playlist and select Done. Call it something you’ll recognise, such as “IPTV Rich”. The guide keeps loading in the background, so give it a few minutes before you judge it.

Which TiviMate settings should you change first?

Change five things in the first week: buffer size, auto frame rate, guide updates, the channel groups you see and what the app opens to. To reach the settings, press Left on the remote to open TiviMate’s side menu and choose Settings. The menu names below come from recent TiviMate versions. If a label reads a little differently on yours, it sits in the same section.

SettingWhereStart withChange it when
Buffer sizeSettings > PlaybackThe defaultThe picture pauses every few minutes on a connection that tests fine. Go up one size at a time. A bigger buffer adds a short delay every time you change channels.
Auto frame rate (AFR)Settings > PlaybackOn, for 4K sticks on a TV that switches refresh ratesThe screen goes black for a second on every channel change and that bothers you more than a slightly jerky pan.
Guide updatesSettings > EPGUpdate when the app starts, plus a daily intervalThe guide shows “No information”. Run a manual update from the same screen.
Channel groupsSettings > Playlists > your playlist, or a long press on a group nameHide the countries nobody in the house watchesSomeone wants a hidden group back. Hidden groups are not deleted.
What opens firstSettings > GeneralLast channel for older viewers, the guide for channel surfersThe person using the TV changes.

The buffer is the setting people get wrong most often. They set it to the largest size on day one, then wonder why every channel takes four seconds to start. Raise it only when you have a steady connection and still see pauses. Our guide on how to increase buffer size to stop freezing walks through the trade-off app by app.

Hiding groups matters more than it sounds. The Full channels package covers many countries, so the list is long. Hide what you don’t watch and keep the groups that carry CBC, CTV, Global, Citytv, CP24 and CHCH, the TSN 1–5 and Sportsnet feeds and, for French-speaking homes, RDS, RDS 2, TVA Sports, TVA, Noovo, ICI Radio-Canada Télé, Télé-Québec, LCN and RDI. If nobody in your home watches anything but English channels, the English channels only package at checkout gives you a shorter list from day one.

Should you change any Fire TV display settings?

Keep Settings > Display & Sounds > Display > Video Resolution on Auto. In the same menu, set Dynamic Range Settings to Adaptive, not Always HDR. Always HDR pushes ordinary HD channels through HDR processing, and skin tones and logos can look washed out or too bright. On 4K sticks, if TiviMate’s AFR doesn’t seem to change anything, look for Match Original Frame Rate in the Display menu and turn it on.

Under Display & Sounds > Audio, leave Surround Sound on Best Available if you have a soundbar or receiver. If you get picture and no sound on some movies, set Dolby Digital Output to Dolby Digital and test again.

Do you need TiviMate Premium?

No, not to watch. The free version plays live channels from one playlist with the TV guide. Premium is a paid upgrade from TiviMate’s developer that adds extras such as catch-up, recording, multiview and more than one playlist. It is not part of any IPTV plan, and its price is set in the app, so check the current figure there before you decide.

Premium featureWho it’s forCatch
Catch-upShift workers who miss the 6 p.m. news on CTV or TVAWorks only on channels where the service keeps catch-up. Ours has catch-up on supported channels.
RecordingPeople who want to keep a program for laterA stick has little storage, so long recordings fill it fast.
MultiviewFans who want two games on one screenEach tile is a separate stream. A 1-device plan plays one stream at a time.
Several playlistsHomes with more than one serviceMost homes with one subscription don’t need it.

Premium on a Fire TV Stick is managed from a phone, because the stick has no Google Play. We compare TiviMate with other players in free vs paid IPTV players, which is worth reading before you spend money on any player.

  1. Install TiviMate Companion on an Android phone or tablet. It is on Google Play. It isn’t a player. It handles Premium for devices without Google Play, such as Fire TV, and lists the devices on your account.
  2. Create or sign in to your TiviMate account in Companion. Choose the Premium option you want and pay through Google Play.
  3. Sign in on the stick. Open TiviMate’s settings on the Fire TV Stick, go to the Premium section and sign in to the same account.
  4. Manage devices from the phone. When you replace a stick, remove the old one in Companion so it stops counting against your account.

Companion is an Android app. If everyone in the house uses an iPhone, borrow an Android device for the purchase or stay on the free version, which plays everything you need for live TV.

One point people often get wrong: TiviMate is a player only, and it comes with no channels. IPTV as a technology is legal in Canada. Whether a given stream is legal depends on whether the channel owner licensed it. IPTV Rich does not host content, and viewers are responsible for what they watch where they live.

How do you get the TV guide showing the right times in Canada?

Set the Fire TV Stick’s own time zone first. TiviMate shows guide times in the device’s local time, so a stick left on the wrong zone puts every program in the wrong slot, and no TiviMate setting fixes that properly.

  1. Set the time zone. Go to Settings > Preferences > Time Zone and choose yours.
  2. Restart TiviMate. Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > TiviMate > Force stop, then open it again.
  3. Update the guide. In TiviMate, open Settings > EPG and run an update.
ZoneWinterSummerPlacesWatch for
NewfoundlandUTC-3:30UTC-2:30St. John’s, Gander, Corner BrookA guide that’s off by exactly 30 minutes means the stick is on Atlantic time instead.
AtlanticUTC-4UTC-3Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown, Labrador CityQuebec’s Lower North Shore stays on Atlantic Standard Time all year.
EasternUTC-5UTC-4Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Québec CityNational broadcasts usually list Eastern times.
CentralUTC-6UTC-5Winnipeg, Kenora, Dryden; Regina and Saskatoon all yearMost of Saskatchewan never changes its clocks. Pick a Regina or Saskatchewan entry if your list has one, or the guide jumps an hour in March and November.
MountainUTC-7UTC-6Calgary, EdmontonYukon stays on UTC-7 all year, and so do Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Creston in B.C.
PacificUTC-8UTC-7Vancouver, Victoria, KelownaA 7 p.m. Eastern puck drop shows as 4 p.m. here. That’s correct.

Clocks fall back on Sunday, November 1, 2026. If the guide is an hour off the day after, force a guide update before you change anything else. It usually catches up on its own within a day.

A guide that’s right on most channels but blank or wrong on a handful is a different problem, usually a channel ID that doesn’t match the guide data. Our guide on fixing an EPG that isn’t updating covers that case.

Why does TiviMate buffer on a Fire TV Stick, and what fixes it?

Most buffering on a Fire TV Stick comes from Wi-Fi, not from TiviMate. Work down the questions in order and stop at the first “yes”.

QuestionIf yes
1. Does the same channel freeze on your phone, on the same Wi-Fi, at the same moment? The stick is fine. It’s the stream or your internet line. Send us the channel name and the time in live chat.
2. Does it only happen in the evening, roughly 7 to 11 p.m.?That points to congestion on your line or in your building. Our post on evening slowdowns on Bell and Rogers explains what helps.
3. Is the stick on Wi-Fi with the router in another room?Check the signal (next section), use the HDMI extender, or go wired.
4. Does it only happen on 4K channels?Your line may not hold 25 Mbps steadily. Watch the HD version of the channel.
5. Does it pause at regular intervals on a strong connection?Raise TiviMate’s buffer one size.
6. Did it start right after an update?Restart the stick, clear TiviMate’s cache, then test again.

How to check the stick’s Wi-Fi signal

Go to Settings > Network, highlight your network and press the Play/Pause button to see its status. If the signal is weak or keeps changing, the stick is the problem spot, not your internet plan. Then run a test at Speedtest on a phone held next to the TV, in the evening, and compare it with the per-stream numbers below.

QualitySpeed per streamData per hour (approx.)
SD3 Mbps0.7 GB
HD 720p5 Mbps1.5 to 2 GB
Full HD 1080p10 Mbps3 GB
4K25 Mbps7 to 10 GB

Add the figure for each screen playing at once, then keep about 30% spare for the rest of the house.

Wi-Fi fixes that work with Canadian internet gateways

  • Use the HDMI extender. The short cable in the Fire TV box moves the stick away from the back of the TV, which blocks Wi-Fi more than people expect. This matters most on wall-mounted TVs.
  • Get the stick onto 5 GHz. Bell’s Home Hub and Giga Hub (admin page usually at 192.168.2.1) and Rogers Ignite gateways (usually 10.0.0.1) show 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name. A stick two rooms away can stick to the slower 2.4 GHz band. Most of these gateways let you give the 5 GHz band its own name; connect the stick to that one.
  • Put a mesh pod near the TV. Telus Boost, Rogers pods, Vidéotron, Cogeco and Eastlink pods, or your own mesh system all help most when one pod sits in the same room as the TV. Former Shaw customers in the West, now on Rogers, can do the same with their pods.
  • Go wired. Amazon’s Ethernet adapter for Fire TV runs at 100 Mbps. That’s four times what a single 4K stream needs, and a wired stick doesn’t care what the neighbours’ Wi-Fi is doing. Our article on Wi-Fi vs Ethernet for IPTV shows how to measure the difference in your own home.
  • On Starlink or fixed wireless, short dropouts are normal when something blocks the dish. A larger buffer helps more on these connections than anywhere else.

How do you keep TiviMate running well on a Fire TV Stick?

Restart the stick once a week, keep storage free and clear TiviMate’s cache, never its data, when it gets slow. Sticks have little memory, and a stick that has been on for weeks behind a warm TV slows down.

TaskHowHow often
Restart the stickHold Select and Play/Pause together for about 5 seconds, or Settings > My Fire TV > RestartWeekly, and after Fire OS updates
Clear TiviMate’s cacheSettings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > TiviMate > Clear cacheWhen channel changes feel slow
Avoid Clear dataClear data deletes your playlist, hidden groups and settingsOnly if support asks you to
Check storageSettings > My Fire TV > About > StorageMonthly
Update TiviMateThe version from TiviMate’s site checks for updates by itselfWhen it asks
Update Fire OSSettings > My Fire TV > About > Check for UpdatesMonthly
Back up your setupTiviMate’s backup option, near the bottom of its SettingsBefore a factory reset or a new stick
Remove apps you don’t useManage Installed Applications > the app > UninstallWhen free storage drops under 1 GB

Heat is the quiet problem. A stick plugged straight into the back of a wall-mounted TV gets warm, and a warm stick slows itself down to cool off. That shows up as stutter on sports, where the picture changes fastest. The HDMI extender fixes this too, because it moves the stick into open air.

Can you use TiviMate on more than one TV in the house?

Yes. Install TiviMate on each stick and add the same login. What limits you is the plan: 1 device on the plan means 1 stream playing at a time. If two people watch at once, say the hockey game in the basement and CTV News Channel in the kitchen, you need a 2-device plan.

Screens playing at oncePlan1 month3 months12 months
11 device$17$27$77
22 devices$28$48$128
33 devices$38$68$178

Prices are in CAD, paid once by Interac e-Transfer, and nothing renews automatically. On one device, 12 months is $77, which is $127 less than paying $17 twelve times ($204). The full grid, including 6-month plans, is on our page of IPTV plans in CAD. Multiview tiles count as streams too, so a four-tile multiview needs more streams than any plan allows. For homes with three or four TVs, see running IPTV on several TVs in one home.

When is TiviMate on a Fire TV Stick the wrong choice?

TiviMate on a Fire OS stick is a good pairing for most living rooms, but not every one. Skip it in these cases:

  • Your stick runs Vega OS. The 4K Select, the 2026 HD and the 2026 third-generation 4K can’t install it. Nothing in this guide changes that.
  • You mostly watch on a phone or tablet. TiviMate’s own listing says it’s built for Android TV and remote control, not touch screens. Use a phone app instead; our IPTV Smarters Pro setup guide covers one that works on phones.
  • Your stick is a 2nd-generation model. It tops out at 1080p at 30 fps and runs Fire OS 5. A long channel list makes it slow. A newer stick will feel very different.
  • You’d rather not sideload anything. On a Google TV or Android TV device, TiviMate comes straight from Google Play.
  • You only watch Netflix, Crave and YouTube. You don’t need an IPTV player at all.

If you want a different app on your Fire TV, our Firestick installation guide covers the other players we support. Stuck at any step above? Send a photo of the screen in live chat and we’ll tell you exactly where you are.

Questions people ask

Is TiviMate free on a Fire TV Stick?

Yes. The free version plays live channels from one playlist with the TV guide. Premium is an optional paid upgrade, bought through the TiviMate Companion app on an Android phone, for extras such as catch-up, recording and multiview.

What is the Downloader code for TiviMate?

TiviMate’s official website lists the code 272483 and the address tivimate.com/apk. Use one of those rather than a code from a video, so you get the real app with its built-in updater.

Why can’t I install TiviMate on my Fire TV Stick 4K Select?

The 4K Select runs Vega OS, which only installs apps from the Amazon Appstore, and TiviMate isn’t there. The 2026 Fire TV Stick HD and the 2026 third-generation 4K are the same. Use a Fire OS stick or a Google TV device instead.

Does TiviMate come with channels?

No. TiviMate is a player only. You add your own login from your IPTV subscription, and the channels, movies and guide come from that service.

Can I use the same login on my phone and my Fire TV Stick?

Yes, you can install the app on several devices with one login. Only as many can play at the same time as your plan allows, so a 1-device plan plays on one screen at a time.

How long does the TV guide take to appear after setup?

Usually a few minutes on a large playlist. If it still shows “No information” after ten minutes, run an update from Settings > EPG and check that the stick’s time zone is right.
